Munster Women Complete Interpro’s Undefeated

The rain hurtled and the wind howled, but nothing could stop Munster claiming their sixth consecutive provincial victory to round off their most successful season to date.

The rain hurtled and the wind howled, but nothing could stop Munster claiming their sixth consecutive provincial victory to round off their most successful season to date.

Back to back titles and the concession of only two tries throughout the series means that Munster are setting the standards benchmark higher than ever and their flattening of a reasonably strong Leinster side only serves to highlight their current dominance in the women s game.

Captain Fiona Steed opened the scoring with a fabulous effort and her overall try tally stands at an impressive eight in six games.

Munsters tremendous first half performance did the required damage and two more touchdowns from wing Amanda Greensmith and fullback Sarah-Jane Belton left them with a rather flattering lead at the break.

Leinster put in the expected battle upfront but the Reds were equal to the challenge controlling the game well and disrupting the Leinster game plan enough to put their opponents under pressure all over the park.

Munster were winning ball everywhere and the presence of Shannon s Jean Lonergan on defensive line outs allowed Munster to dominate on opposition ball as well and recycle possession quickly and intelligently.

Leinster came close before the break in an attempt to bring them selves back into the game but the country s best defensive side were not found wanting and a ten minute spell on the line yielded little for the visitors.

It was as you were in the second half although conditions favoured neither side and play was marred with a series of handling errors from both teams.

Leinster could compete well up front but their efforts were wasted when Munster centre Patrique Kelly showed an excellent turn of pace to dodge an array of defenders, powering for the line to more or less settle matters for the champions.

The introduction of seven substitutes at various intervals caused minor disruption and

Belton scored again before the whistle entering the line at excellent pace and her conversion saw the Reds finish 27 points clear with a third clean sheet to boot.
