On Wedneday next, March 3rd, at Mullingar RFC, the semi-finals of the LGM Ireland Students Rugby Interprovincial semi finals will take place.

The champions Connacht play Leinster in what promises to be an intriguing encounter. Both sides promise to be extremely competive at this level, based on the performance of there respective colleges at domestic level. However, Connacht have proven an extremely hard team to beat in the past and it will take somthing special by the Leinster team on the day to overcome what promises to be a strong challenge from the west. In the second semi-final, also being played at 2.30 pm at Mullingar RFC, Munster take the field against Ulster. Both sides have lost a the final over the last two years and the urge must now be there to go one step further and take the honours . Munster have prepared well , and judging by the number of players who featured on the Irish Colleges team in France this year and are available to them, they would have to be slight favourites on paper to make it through.

Now in its third year , this competition is establishing itself as a very respectable stage on which a student can display his rugby ability on. The IRFU have invested at this level in order to more readily identify talent coming through at the 20 to 25 year age bracket. Both matches kick off simultaneously and there promises to be a a lot of good rugby played on the day.
