Ireland Team to Play South Africa

Ten Munster players have been named in the Ireland squad to face the Springboks at Bloemfontein on Saturday next in the first of Ireland’s two test tour to South Africa.

Brian O’Driscoll will win his 51st cap – the 14th time as captain – against the Springboks at Bloemfontein on Saturday next in the first of Ireland’s two -Test tour to South Africa.

Ireland’s all time record 24 times try scorer will lead out an unchanged team from that which defeated Scotland to win the Triple Crown in March.

A 65th cap for second row Malcolm O’Kelly brings him to within four of the Irish all time capped record haul of 69, established by Mike Gibson between 1964 and ’79.

Other cap milestones in Bloemfontein will see prop John Hayes reach the 45 mark; blind side flanker Simon Easterby win his 33rd cap; hooker Shane Byrne and winger Shane Horgan win their 30th caps and second row Paul O’Connell and open side flanker David Wallace make their 20th appearances.

Alan Quinlan’s selection in the replacements represents his first time in the Match 22 since he injured a shoulder while scoring a try against Argentina in the World Cup in Australia in October 2003.
