David’s Dominate in Final Celtic League Awards

Munster’s David Wallace and Ulster’s David Humphreys were named as Guinness Draught Can Celtic League Irish Players of the month for April and May respectively.

Munster’s David Wallace and Ulster’s David Humphreys were named as Guinness Draught Can Celtic League Irish Players of the month for April and May respectively.

Both players showed no evidence of Six Nations hangovers with superb form with their provinces, lending their international experience for the closing stages of the Celtic League.

For the second time during the Celtic League David Humphreys has returned to the Ulster team to win the nomination as the player of the month.

He won the award in December when leading Ulster to the Celtic Cup and although Ulster started poorly with a narrow defeat to Cardiff Blues (19 – 15), Humphreys scored 17 points during a triumphant victory over Connacht (42-27) and went on to put a drop kick and two penalty kicks over against bottom of the table Borders (15-19). His control and leadership were key to Ulster’s continuing good form.

In May, the ‘Men of Munster’ put their disappointment of the European cup aside to record two comprehensive wins over Connacht (39-10) at Thomond Park and The Borders (10-18) at Netherdale.

Wallace picked up where he left off with his try scoring appearance in the Triple Crown match against Scotland to register two tries in the Connacht match, showing his ball carrying skills were sorely missed by Munster during the season.

Ronan Beirne, Guinness Brand Manager said, “I congratulate both David Humphreys and David Wallace on their awards and wish them well as they prepare to take on South Africa in the final game of a very tough season. Both players have shown true professionalism when coming back into their provincial teams after long absences and have proven their quality by taking these awards.”
