Limerick Leprechauns Raise 30,000 for Charity

Limerick Leprechauns Give 30,000 for Leprechaun Land playground in St. Vincent’s School Lisnagry for Children with Special Needs

Limerick Leprechauns a unique cross club veterans rugby club in Limerick that raises money for charity presented St. Vincent’s School Lisnagry for Children with Special Needs with a cheque for 30,000 towards the development of Leprechaun Land playground in the school. St. Vincent’s School Lisnagry for Children with Special Needs was the Limerick Leprechauns chosen charity for the season just ended. The Playground will have specially adapted equipment to suit the particular needs and circumstances of the children in Lisnagry.

Limerick Leprechauns President Vincent Ryan said that he was particularly proud and delighted to be able to present the cheque to the school. We have dealt with a lot of local charities over our 20 year history, but this one has touched a particular chord with everyone in Limerick Leprechauns. To know that our hard work and the great generosity of the rugby community in the area is going some way towards brightening the lives of these very special children really connects with us all as amateur sportsmen volunteering to help those less fortunate. While we have to continue getting knocks and bruises that should have stopped long ago, we get a great kick out of what we do, largely because we can help others and have a laugh at the same time .

He paid special thanks to all the sponsors large and small – that contributed over the past season. In particular he thanked those who contributed during the World Vintage Rugby Carnival which was held in Limerick last September. He also thanked Minister Willie O Dea for his help to date in securing Lotto funding the Limerick Leprechauns have submitted a Lotto funded Sports Grant on behalf of the school, on which a decision is imminent.

Finally, he paid special thanks to his very hard working Committee, and he invited all existing and prospective Limerick Leprechauns members to the club s AGM, which will be held on Monday 4th July at 8.30pm in Flannery s Catherine Street.

Limerick Leprechauns is a Limerick based veterans’ rugby club that (uniquely) raises funding for charities and deserving causes. Its philosophy is to bring together former players from Limerick s clubs – whose normal relationship is one of fierce sporting rivalry to help those less fortunate in society in general. Over the course of its 20 year history, over 350,000 has been presented to a variety of charities and deserving causes. The club is comprised of former players from all of Limerick s rugby clubs, and uses Limerick s unequalled rugby community bond to help those less fortunate.
