2005 Ulster Bank IRFU Summer Camps

Munster Rugby Stars and Sean Og O’ Hailpin Inspire at Ulster Bank IRFU Summer Camp

This week, 120 young rugby enthusiasts from all over Cork took part in the first of the Ulster Bank IRFU Rugby Summer Camps which took place at Colaiste Stiofain Naofa on Tramore Road. The Summer Camps kicked off for the summer this week, and will take place at venues all over Munster in the coming months, giving children from 7-14 years the opportunity to improve their rugby skills, make new friends and have fun. Munster stars Christian Cullen, John Kelly and Tomas O Leary were on hand with the Celtic Cup in tow, to offer advice to the future stars of Munster rugby. The arrival of Cork GAA star Sean Og O Hailpin on behalf of Ulster Bank was an added surprise for all the participants, and he, together with some of Munster s top rugby players, spent some time meeting the children and signing autographs.

Provincial Development Manager Ultan O Callaghan was delighted with the success of the first camp, paying tribute to both the participants and the parents. It s been a fantastic week, and much of its success is down to the wonderful attitude of the children and their parents. He also attributed much of the success of the camp to the support within Munster Rugby. The clubs and schools have been excellent in lending support, and their co-operation and support was vital. He also singled out the effort and fantastic work undertaken by the Staff Coaches and Camp Managers. We owe much to the support of Tim Kelleher, Principal of Colaiste Stiofain Naofa, and the excellent facilities they provide, as well as the professional players who come and visit. Having Sean Og O Hailpin visiting on behalf of Ulster Bank was a great bonus, and the children were very impressed by the sporting talents that lent their support.

ULSTER BANK IRFU SUMMER CAMPS 2005

Want to make new friends and have fun this summer? Join the fun and improve your rugby skills at the Ulster Bank IRFU Rugby Summer Camps. Suitable for Boys and Girls aged 7-14 years.

Following the resounding success of last year s camps the Ulster Bank IRFU Summer Camps are back for the summer season, giving children the opportunity to improve their rugby skills with expert coaching, make new friends, and most importantly- have fun!

The camps will be held across the country over the months of July and August 2005. In total there will be 49 camps, 15 of which will take place in venues across Munster (Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford).

The aim of the Ulster Bank IRFU camps is to bring more young people into contact with rugby in a fun and friendly atmosphere. With the emphasis on fun and learning rather than competition, the camps will be professionally managed by IRFU Development Officers to ensure that every child that takes part gets the chance to develop their own rugby skills. Scrums and set pieces, tackles and throw-ins, drop kicks and dead ball lines, all this and more awaits those lucky kids who sign up to be a potential international player of the future!
