Youghal Share Lansdowne Stage With Cork Con

Munster Junior League Champions Youghal will be in action on Saturday at Lansdowne Road in the AIB Junior Cup Final (2pm) ahead of the AIB Cup Final (4pm) featuring Cork Con and St Mary’s

Munster Junior League Champions Youghal continue their marvellous season with a Lansdowne Road appearance on Saturday when they take on Rainey Old Boys in the final of the AIB Junior Cup.

The game itself will act as a dry run for both sides who later in the month will meet in the first game of the Round Robin to determine what Junior club advances to the AIB League next season.

On Saturday, Youghal will be led by their Munster Junior interpro prop Roy McArdle while their player coach, centre Robbie Doyle also won representative honours with the Munster Juniors this season.

One of two Junior clubs nominated by Munster Branch to contest the inaugural AIB Junior Cup, they opened their campaign with a victory over Monivea thanks to a brace of tries from scrum-half Tom Curran and one from their New Zealand number 8 Shaun McCreedy. Drawn at home in the semi-final, they were 14-10 winners over City of Armagh.

Their rich seam of form has seen them top Section B of the Munster Junior League and in the knock out stages they accounted for Skibbereen (8-6) and top seeds Cobh Pirates 11-9 in the St Patrick’s Day final.

Last month a 24-18 win over Kanturk gave annexed them the Munster Junior Challenge Cup and they pitch up to Lansdowne Road boosted by their 31-23 victory last weekend over Kinsale in the Cork County Cup
