Munster Rugby Supporting Special Olympics Ireland

The 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games will take place from the 9 to the 13th of June with 1,900 athletes from all over Ireland competing in 13 different sports in venues throughout Limerick and Clare.

Munster's David Wallace and Marcus Horan joined Special Olympics Athletes Graham Richardson, Eoin Hanley and Kate Hanley to promote and talk about the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games which will get underway next week.

The athletes will be supported by 650 coaches and official delegates as well as more than 4,000 family members. The Games will be run by a team of 3,000 volunteers.

Members of the Munster Rugby Team have been involved in many aspects of the Games – from volunteer recruitment to raising money on Special Olympics Ireland’s Collection Day. The Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games will take place in Thomond Park in Limerick, on Wednesday, 9th June.

Speaking about the Games Munster Captain Paul O’Connell who will be joining Team Munster at the opening ceremony said “The 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games will be a huge sporting occasion. All of us on the Munster Rugby Team know what a difference it makes to have people supporting you during sporting occasions like this and we are all proud to lend our support and best wishes to the athletes”.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games will take place in Thomond Park, on Wednesday 9th June. Tickets for this event which will feature a performance from The Cranberries are available to purchase from www.ticketmaster.ie or www.thomondpark.ie as well as from the Thomond Park ticket Office.
