The Winning Race

2nd August 2013 By Munster Rugby

The Winning Race

Munster’s Amazing Race has completed and after two days, six counties and 27 stops later the squad all arrived at the Quality Hotel in Youghal on Thursday evening within the allocated time of 5pm.

The players arrived just in time for a quick turnaround before departing by bus to nearby club Youghal RFC, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary in November.

On arrival they were greeted by a great crowd and a pig on the spit BBQ before Peter O’Mahony, Felix Jones, James Coughlan and Rob Penney took part in a final Q&A session inside the clubhouse.

The squad returned to their base for a night of group presentations where a nominated member of each group had to present on the group’s Munster Race activities.

A judging panel, comprising of team management, allocated points based on community engagement, group interaction, rugby promotion, humour, points/people of interest, task completion and overall project presentation.

Group 2 were declared the winners of the Munster Race at the squad meeting on Friday morning and the participants – BJ Botha, Paddy Butler, Sean Dougall, Denis Hurley, Felix Jones, Ian Nagle, Willie Ryan and CJ Stander – were more than deserving of the title. Team Manager Niall O’Donovan is in the process of identifying the prize!

Overall it was an extremely close call as every group excelled in community engagement and all embraced the concept of the competition from the off.

From the overwhelming response, best wishes and support everyone received it is fair to say it was a winning race for Munster Rugby, the supporters and the community alike.

On a final note we would like to express heartfelt thanks to everyone that made the last two days possible and so enjoyable!
