Munster Rugby Supports Local Charities

Munster Rugby have nominated Friday night’s game as this year’s "Charity Match" in a bid to raise funds and awareness for our two nominated charities for season 2013/14, Mid West Spina Bifida and CUH Charity.

To support the initiative, supporters are being asked to purchase a match programme for €;5 with €;1 from each programme sale donated to help raise much needed funds for the charities.

At halftime, an exclusive, signed “Charity Match Munster Jersey” will be presented to representatives of each of the charities.

Mid West Spina Bidida – Munster Rocks!

Munster Rugby will be lining out to support Mid West Spina Bifida's Wheelchair Rugby team, aptly named MunStars.

Striving to set yet another record for Munster, by having the most red wristbands worn in any one venue, Mid West Spina Bifida will be selling the bands, embossed with "Munster Rocks", at the Charity Match against Connacht on Friday night at Thomond Park.

We are asking all of the notorious Red Army fans to row in and purchase a band…for €;2.

Bands will be sold prior to, during, and after the match. Sellers will be wearing red tee shirts with MUNSTER ROCKS! on the front.

Lynn Buffington, Development Director for Mid West Spina Bifida, came up with the idea, based upon her view that "Munster does rock…always has…and always will." According to Lynn, "Munster has inspired our wheelchair rugby team, Thomond Park even sponsored our jerseys, and we are honoured to be affiliated with both Munster Rugby and Thomond Park. So, come on, Red Army, do your bit and be proud to wear a wristband to show the world that, indeed, MUNSTER ROCKS!"]

CUH Charity

In addtion to Mid West Spina Bifida, CUH Charity will benefit from Friday night's game in Thomon Park. CUH Charity were on hand on Saturday night in Musgrave Park to help with the Christmas celebrations by providing mulled wine and mince pies.

The CUH Charity was established early in 2012 with the aim of fundraising to provide a wide range of life changing and life-saving equipment and services for patients across all departments of Cork University Hospital.

Cork University Hospital (CUH) is the largest university teaching hospital in Ireland and is the only Level 1 Trauma Centre in the country due to the presence of over 40 different medical and surgical specialities on the campus including cancer services, cardiac services, neuroscience, renal medicine and obstetrics.

Covering a regional area of 1 million people, Cork University Hospital is the biggest and one of the busiest hospitals in the country. We cover Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford, Clare and Kilkenny, with an ever growing population needing our help and services at the hospital. To fund this demand, the Cork University Hospital Charity was formed.
