Bestival Bragging Rights For Copeland

Even before making his debut for Munster, Robin Copeland has already tasted success at Thomond Park after taking the spoils at Saturday’s Bestival Sports Challenge.

The fun event organised by Bank of Ireland saw 700 adults and kids gather at Thomond Park to see a number of famous sports stars from various sporting pursuits go head to head in an informal and good humoured sporting challenge.

With GAA commentating stalwart Marty Morrissey on compering duties, participating sports-persons included Munster’s Robin Copleand and Keith Earls, Henry Shefflin and Tommy Walsh (Kilkenny Hurling), Liam Sheedy and Eoin Kelly (Tipperary Hurling), Killian Young (Kerry Football) and Shane Lowry (Golf).

Placing all participants both in and out of their comfort zones, their skill and accuracy was tested in events that ""included hurling and football shots at goal, rugby passing and golf pitching.

While Wexford hurlers may not have had the best of outings against an in form Limerick side over the weekend, at least one Wexford-man was able to claim bragging rights on Limerick soil on Saturday when Munster’s Robin Copeland proved to be the most consistent performer across all pursuits and was crowned Bestival Sports Champion 2014.

Following his second official Munster Rugby appearance, Copeland later tweeted about his success, jest-fully referencing Shane Lowry.

“Good day today in Thomond Park, somehow got a win. I know @shanelowrygolf was a bit disappointed with himself!”
