Latest Video & Pics: Dingle Plays Host To Munster

We look back at the wonderful reception afforded to Munster players from the people of Dingle, following the completion of this year’s Munster Race.

Coláiste Íde on the outskirts of Dingle was the finishing point for this year’s race, where upon arrival, respective groups of players regrouped and shared tales of their various challenges across the province, gathered for a group photo, and checked in to their accommodation for night.  Coláiste Íde is normally home to boarding secondary school girls, but for one night only its dorms would play host to a Munster player invasion.

Danno’s Restaurant & Bar was the first port of call in town as players enjoyed food ahead of a packed schedule of events organised by Shane O’Rourke and company in Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne.  Proceedings began with a player selfie-hunt through the town for supporters, followed by a series of team building exercises on the pier with the Irish Coast Guard, after which players took to the water kayaking and rowing along the Dingle Marina – take a look…

With bodies sufficiently warmed up from rowing, it was time for the evening’s main event – a keenly contested Munster Rugby v Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne Tug of War competition.  Determined not to be defeated on home turf, the locals dug deep and even enlisted the help of Dingle’s favourite son – Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh – in taking the spoils on the night.  See for yourself right here…

Following the evening’s exertions it was then off to TP’s Pub for dinner, with Ó Muircheartaigh again joining the team the following morning at Coláiste Íde, where he spoke after breakfast.  The GAA commentating stalwart recounted the rich history of rugby in Kerry and how the sport was once the primary game in the Kingdom, emanating from the region’s garrison towns.

An open training session at Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne concluded proceedings in Dingle and pictures of the event can be seen by clicking here.
