Smith Arrives In Munster

New signing Andrew Smith and his family have arrived in the province, touching down in Shannon Airport this morning.

The centre will hook up with his new team-mates for the first time at tomorrow’s squad session in Limerick.
Smith joins the province from the UC Brumbies following the conclusion of the 2014 Super Rugby season.

After making his debut for the Australian outfit in 2010 against the Auckland Blues, he went on to make 50 Super Rugby appearances for the club, scoring 30 points. The Sydney native also played a pivotal role in Brumbie’s match winning try over the British & Irish Lions in June 2013.

Having spent the last two seasons under former Munster Forwards Coach Laurie Fisher, Smith is ready for the new challenge that lies ahead.

“I'm really looking forward to joining Munster and making the most of the opportunity. Laurie Fisher has always spoken highly about the team and culture. It's definitely somewhere I want to go and make an impact, working closely with the boys and training hard. I've no doubt it will be a great experience and I can't wait to get stuck in.”

Meanwhile, members of the Munster coaching team met with media in Mitchelstown this afternoon. Head Coach Anthony Foley, Assistant Coaches Ian Costello and Brian Walsh, Technical Advisor Mick O’Driscoll and Scrum Coach Jerry Flannery were all in attendance, as media representatives interviewed and got to know the full Munster coaching ticket ahead of the new season, now just over two weeks away.

Munster return to match action with a pre-season friendly away to Gloucester on Saturday August 23rd (KO 3pm), ahead of their first home game the following Friday against London Irish at the Waterford RSC (KO 7:30pm).
