Munster’s Preparations Abroad

The Munster squad are coming to the end of their six-day training camp at Club La Santa in Lanzarote as they complete their preparations for the resumption of competitive fixtures next week.

Munster flew out to the renowned Club La Santa last Saturday minus the international contingent involved in the Six Nations squad, while a small group of injured players remained in the province and continued their work under the watchful eye of Head Physio Shea McAleer.

In maintaining fitness levels over the competitive break and looking ahead to a four-match block of PRO12 games the Strength & Conditioning team, led by Head of Fitness Aled Walters, used the time together to maximise output.

From previous experiences the week away has always proved to be beneficial for a group that train between two bases. In training together each day, with gym sessions, field sessions and group challenges to complete, the intensity levels pick up and the competition is heightened with everyone pushing for top spot. The favourable weather conditions – temperatures in the high-teens and a light wind – certainly play their part also, and the group understandably welcome the change at this time of year.

With the players following their S&C and rugby schedule for the week, group challenges involving management and players were also included in the itinerary. Divided into six groups the daily challenges included a swimming competition, volleyball tournament, kayaking and a triathlon.

Overnight reports suggest that Anthony Foley’s group is conveniently leading the way in the point’s race!
