Munster Falter in Firhill

Munster Falter in Firhill

The defending Magners League champions came up short in Firhill this evening as Glasgow defeated Munster 22-9.

From the kick off Munster looked promising attacking the Glasgow line, and Jeremy Manning opened the scoring after seven minutes with a penalty. But Munster’s attack was short lived as Glasgow maintained the upper hand for the remainder of the half.

Dominating at the scrums and the breakdown Glasgow were rewarded with a series of penalties with Dan Parks duly converting.

Peter Stringer was sin binned just at the halfway mark and Munster had it all to do in the second half to turn the 12-3 deficit around.

Munster pulled back within a score after 58 minutes when Manning kicked his second penalty in five minutes, and on a 12-9 scoreline it was all to play for.

But as Munster looked to be getting back in the game, further indiscipline led to the second binning of the night with Manning this time receiving the yellow.

The resulting penalty gave Glasgow the edge as they pulled away even further with a Ruaridh Jackson converted try in the 67th minute.

Munster come away from their opening Magners League outing, suffering defeat to Glasgow, 22-9.
