ERC are introducing a new system to their three European tournaments aimed at reducing the congestion on touchlines, which becomes progressively more frenetic as matches approach their conclusion.
The new system, to take effect immediately, involves substitution cards which the nominated team official must fill in and sign before any substitution takes place, including the reason for the substitution – tactical, injury, blood or sin bin – and the jersey numbers of the players involved.
The substitution card must be handed to the fourth official before the substitution can take place. The fourth official will then record the details on a similar form detailing all substitutions made during the match.
