Munster U19 Tournament a Huge Success

An Under 19 women’s selection represented the province at the weekend in the first ever underage women’s Interprovincial competition.
An Under 19 women’s selection represented the province at the weekend in the first ever underage women’s Interprovincial competition.
The historic tournament that saw Munster face Ulster in a two legged competition at Tralee RFC, was a testament to the current growth of the sport in the country. The squad travelled toTralee on Friday and the first game kicked off at 1.00pm on Saturday. Munster, thanks to tries from winger Marina Quinlan, captain Laura Geist, Claire Kelly and Elaine Malone who kicked three conversions were 26-0 winners of this first game.
The second leg was held at the earlier kick off time of 11.00am on Sunday morning and Munster made sure of an overall tournament victory with a 20-0 win. Flying winger Quinlan, from Rockwell College touched down twice with Jean Lodge and Jane Lowney also getting in on the act. Assistant forwards coach Kate McCarthy said that all present were impressed at the standards and attitudes of the young players on both teams”
“Both games made excellent rugby watching and we were all extremely pleased at the efforts and standards of both the Munster and Ulster teams. This weekend proves that the future of the game is certainly solid and there were player here who will no doubt go on to represent their province at senior level over the next few seasons”
The Under 19 side was coached by Steve Joslin, Richie Draper and Rohan West and assisted by Kate McCarthy, Eimaer O Sullivan, Deirdre Lynch, Padraig Colbert and Tom Hoyle.
