The haul takes him to 91 points this season, closing the gap on Llanelli s Stephen Jones at the top of the points-scoring table to just 16 points. Jones has 107 this season, and 479 in the tournament.

Jones could manage only 14 points against Perpignan as Llanelli went down 26-19 to the French side in the quarter-final.

With Jones out of the competition, O Gara has his target set on 108 points or more to top the list.

Leinster s Brian O Meara (78) and Perpignan s Manny Edmonds (77) will duel in the Heineken Cup semi-final at Lansdowne Road on April 27.

In the try-scoring table, Llanelli s Garan Evans is top with seven, but hot on his heels with six is Toulouse s Vincent Clerc. Leinster Lions Denis Hickie, Gordon D’Arcy both have five tries.
