Meet Broc the mascot of the Irish Rugby Team! The Irish Rugby Team are delighted to introduce its newest team member, Broc the Irish Terrier!

Broc is short for brocaire the Irish word for terrier. This true breed has been around for nearly 2000 years. Broc fits in wonderfully well with his Irish team mates displaying all the characteristics to be found in this Irish team. He is spirited, loyal, courageous and at times a little hot-headed! He can be a real handful, powerful, energetic, dynamic, a likeable rogue who carry himself with a steely inner belief and confidence.

Why have a team mascot?

Sport proliferates with mascots, emblems, nick names etc-the Australian rugby team has a wallaby, the South African team is known as the Springboks, the Leinster lions have Leo the lion , Sale are known as the Sharks, the list goes on and on so why not Ireland with an Irish Terrier? From the Teams point of view, a mascot is the representation of the unique traits or characteristics that the Team personifies, a rallying point and an identifiable symbol of what the Team stands for. For the fans, it is a unique, instantly recognisable and attractive addition to the offering being made facilitating the link between a supporter and his team.

Who designed it?

Broc was designed by the creative team in D coy Design working to Padraig Power Marketing Manager IRFU.

Where will he be featuring?

Broc will have his first outing on the touchline in Perth where Ireland take on World Champions Australia. His first public outing at home will be at the permanent tsb international match between Ireland and Wales in Lansdowne road on Saturday 16th August.

Will he be available to buy?

Broc will be available to purchase as a toy from quality retailers and a range of official IRFU merchandising featuring Ireland s newest team member is also in production.
