IRFU Extends Eddie O Sullivan s Contract to 2008

The Irish Rugby Football Union is delighted to announce an extension to Eddie O Sullivan s contract as National coach until after the 2008 Six Nations.

The Irish Rugby Football Union is delighted to announce an extension to Eddie O Sullivan s contract as National coach.

Appointed in November 2001 for a two-and-a-half years period to the end of the Six Nations championship, 2004; the IRFU has invited Mr. O Sullivan to extend his role by a further four years.

That would take account of Rugby World Cup 2007 and the following Six Nations championship, 2008.

“Our decision reflects a job very well done and our desire that Eddie should be given the scope and support to further consolidate his role as National coach through to 2008 says Philip Browne, Chief Executive, Irish Rugby Football Union. He adds: “We believe it is a timely expression of our confidence in the coach and his players as they prepare to depart to Australia for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.”

The Ireland squad leaves on Monday next, September 28 with the unprecedented record of having achieved 15 victories in 17 Tests, since September 2002, which has earned them third place in the new IRB World Rankings.

Re-appointed Ireland coach Eddie O Sullivan says: “I am greatly honoured that the IRFU should invite me to further extend my coaching contract. I have enjoyed the full backing of the Union over the past two years and the additional faith they are now showing in me is a wonderful statement of the support and confidence which enables me to plan for the National team into the long term future.”

The Irish World Cup squad will hold a training session at Terenure College RFC, Lakelands Park on Thursday next, September 25 at 11 am. It will be followed by a Media Conference in the Banqueting Centre, City west Hotel, with Management and players at 12.30 approx.
