There were no upsets in the quarter finals of the Munster Senior Cup with all the big guns advancing to the semi-finals, which will be held in January.

Holders Shannon going for a record five in a row had that little bit of experience to see of the challenge of Midleton 29-12 in a repeat of last season’s final. Cork Constitution with Irish World Cup panellists Anthony Horgan and Frankie Sheahan in their side, proved too strong for Clonakilty on a 33-16 score line. Garryowen edged out U.L. Bohemian 14-13 and Old Crescent defeated Waterpark 26-7.

The draw for the semi-finals will not be made until the New Year. Nenagh Ormond were the only side at the top of the First Division of the Heineken Munster Junior League to gain a bonus point and have now a three point lead over Cobh Pirates. Nenagh defeated Richmond 31-0, while Cobh Pirates were 27-10 away winners against Crosshaven.

Bruff defeated St. Senan’s 22-3 to remain four points behind the leaders with a game in hand. Defeats for Clanwilliam, beaten by Youghal 24-18 and Clonmel, who lost at Bandon 20-16, have seen their chances of the title slip away. Old Christians eased their relegation worries with a 43-24 win over fellow strugglers St. Mary’s in a game that produced nine tries. Thurles have opened up a point lead at the top of the Second Division after their 40-7 victory at home to Waterford City. Tralee kept up their challenge with a hard earned 16-10 victory at Muskerry.

Cashel stayed in touch with the leaders with a 22-3 home win over Ennis. Skibbereen lost their unbeaten record 21-15 at Kanturk, losing out to a last minute converted try. There was no change at the foot of the table, with Charleville and Castleisland playing out a 3-3 draw and Ballincollig and Douglas ended all square 13-13. Mallow have gone one point clear ahead of Fermoy at the top of the Third Division, with Abbeyfeale a further three points behind, but with a game in hand.

Mallow defeated Carrick-on-Suir 25-6, while Fermoy were 26-9 winners away to Presentation. Abbeyfeale had to rely on a last minute try from Dan Gilmore to beat Galbally 19-14, while Newcastle West have moved into fourth place after their 27-21 win away to Kinsale. Garryowen remain four points ahead of Cork Constitution in the top section of the Munster Seconds League. Both sides recorded big victories over Sunday’s Well and Young Munster.
