Cork Constitution and Shannon picked up maximum points from their weekend encounters in the First Division of the AIL to open up a gap between them and the chasing pack.

A last minute converted try saw Cork Constitution beat Blackrock 28-25, but also secure a bonus point to keep their lead at the top. Shannon had a comfortable 51-7 home win over Dolphin and the meeting of these two sides next week in the Munster Senior League final is sure to attract a good crowd to Musgrave Park. Garryowen ended their poor run with a 21-13 victory over Lansdowne in Dublin.

In Division Two, the big upset was leader’s UL Bohemian losing at Donnybrook to Bective Rangers 10-6 and this has seen them slip to fourth position level on points with U.C.C., who defeated Midleton 31-16 at the Mardyke. Old Crescent moved into a mid table position as a result of their 20-15 win over Thomond, while Sunday’s Well are still bottom after losing at home to Terenure 28-22.

In Division Three, Highfield kept up their challenge for honours with a 20-12 home win over Ards and a great come back in Galway by Clonakilty saw them share the spoils with Corinthians, when they played a 12-12 draw.

League Champions Bruff have gone clear at the top of Division One of the Munster Junior League after their 47-0 win away to bottom side St. Mary’s. Nenagh Ormond defeated Cobh Pirates 13-5 to remain a point behind. Both Tipperary clubs, Kilfeacle and Clanwilliam kept in touch. Clanwilliam defeated Richmond 15-10 while Kilfeacle had a 20-10 win away to Clonmel. Old Christians eased their relegation worries with an 11-9 win at home to Bandon and St. Senan’s defeated Crosshaven 26-19.

Tralee won the top of the table clash in Division two with an 18-6 home win over Thurles to go top of the table.

Mallow retained their lead at the top of the Third Division with a 31-5 win away to Dunmanway, while Abbeyfeale picked up all five points from their encounter with Kilrush. Fermoy and Newcastle West shared the spoils and fell further behind the leaders after their 12-12 draw. Galbally moved into fourth place after they defeated Newport 29-15. Killarney defeated Presentation for the second time this season, winning their league encounter 17-10, while Carrick-on-Suir beat Kinsale 19-0.

Garryowen are back on top of the Munster Seconds League after their 57-5 win at home to Young Munster. UL Bohemian maintained their challenge with a 41-12 victory at home to Sunday’s Well.

There was a big upset in Division One of the Under Twenty League, when last season’s beaten All Ireland finalist’s Buccaneers lost away to Young Munster 12-8, a result that could see the Limerick side clinch the last remaining place in the top section in phase two, if they beat Highfield in their final game next Saturday. Damien Malone kicked four penalties for the Cookies.
