Munster Captain Jim Williams was named as the Guinness Draught Can Irish Celtic League Player of the month for November on Thursday.
The big Australian has been the personification of consistency throughout Munster s Celtic League campaign and has proved himself as a superb captain during the tough times that Munster had at the start of the season.
Just as Leinster had a slow start with the loss of so many of their Irish World Cup squad members, Munster battled on without many of their star names and looked to the captaincy of Williams to steady the boat. Munster s form through November included a 20 – 9 loss to a strong Edinburgh side, who will face Ulster tomorrow in the Celtic Cup final and was followed by a convincing 31 10 victory over Cardiff in Musgrave Park.
Jim Williams own form through these two games reflected his own professionalism and coupled with his leadership skills, have brought him the player of the month award for November.
Ronan Beirne, GUINNESS Brand Manager commented, Jim Williams is quickly becoming a modern Munster legend, along with the likes of Clohessy and Galwey. Munster continues to improve in the Celtic League and have benefited greatly from the experience of Jim Williams. As Official Beer to Celtic Rugby, Guinness Draught Can is happy to reward his effort and wish both himself and Munster continued success in the Celtic League.
The Guinness Draught Can Irish Celtic League Player of the Month was decided by the members of the national sports media and will continue each month throughout the Celtic League.
