No major surprises in the Second Round of the Heineken Munster Junior Cup as Cork Constitution and Shannon maintained their position at the top of the AIL Division One.

Both Cork Con and Shannon travelled to the capital on Saturday and both came away with all five points. Yet again leader’s Cork Con had to wait until the eight minute of injury time before securing their victory and a fourth try for a 29-26 victory over Clontarf.

Tom Cregan was outstanding in Shannon’s 34-13 win over St. Mary’s College. Garryowen got back to winning ways with a 22-18 home win over U.C.D. and Belfast Harlequins over powered Dolphin in the second half for a 33-16 victory at Musgrave Park.

U.L. Bohemian have gone back to the top of the Second Division after their 34-3 home win over Terenure. Leaders Old Belvedere and second placed Barnhall both lost. Barry Keeshan was the star in UCC 21- 14 home win over Waterpark. Thomond collected all five points in their 24-9 win over bottom side Sunday’s Well. Young Munster lost at home to Trinity 18-3. Old Crescent shared the spoil with Ballynahinch and Midleton managed a bonus point as they lost to Malone 22-16.

Bad day for the two Third Division sides, Highfield lost their place at the top of the table, after Old Wesley defeated them 20-10. The’ Field were not helped when injuries in the opening minutes to Rory Cogan and Billy Quinlan forced them to depart. Clonakilty were surprising beaten by bottom side Connemara 8-7.

Shannon won the top game in the Heineken Junior Cup, after they defeated Kilfeacle 16-14 in a thriller. Old Christians got the better of Midleton 13-12. Holder’s Cork Constitution surrendered a 17-3 half time lead at Waterford but a late try and penalty saw them through 27-17. Tralee were the highest scorers beating Kinsale 81-8, and Bruff defeated Clanwilliam 66-3.

Nenagh Ormond defeated Old Crescent 27-0 and Thurles won the Tipperary derby with a 13-0 home win over Cashel. U.C.C. edged out Dolphin at Musgrave Park 12-7 and the other tenant club Sunday’s Well lost away to Skibbereen 27-13. Crosshaven defeated Castleisland 24-7 and Youghal ended Highfield’s ambitions with a 17-10 home win. St. Senan’s defeated Young Munster 28-6, but U.L. Bohemian advanced 46-3 winners over St. Mary’s.

Thomond brushed past the challenge of Ennis with a 22-3 victory at Fitzgerald Park and Richmond proved too strong for Galbally winning 12-3.

In the Junior Plate holders Cobh Pirates defeated Clonmel 31-8. Bandon were too strong for a weakened Muskerry side 36-18. Charleville won a bruising North Cork derby with a 15-13 win at home to Kanturk. Fermoy defeated Douglas 20-14 and Mallow edged out Carrick-on-Suir 18-14.
