The Munster Schools interprovincial schools campaign for this season continued in earnest with the running of the third annual University of Limerick Development Camp weekend.

The purpose of the weekend is to contribute to the ongoing development of this squad in its quest to retain the schools interprovincial championship this season with a new squad.

Players from the following schools were involved in the squad: Ard Scoil Ris; Bandon Grammar; Christian Brothers College, Cork; Crescent Comprehensive; Glenstal; High School CBS, Clonmel; Presentation Brothers College, Cork; Rockwell College St. Munchin s, Limerick. Guiding them through their paces was a coaching team headed by the recently returned Irish Schools Coach to Australia this summer, Peter Melia with the help of the Assistant Coach, Terry Kingston. These were helped by three coaching assistants: Paul Barr, Pat Cross and Frank Fitzgerald.

This enabled a full and exacting programme take place beginning on the Friday afternoon. David Corkery was on hand in his capacity as Technical Adviser.

Ensuring that all the players were looked after was the medical team of Dr. Larry Martin and physio, Paula Kearns. Such was their contribution that there was only one player with an injury going into the match which concluded the weekend.

Morale was high amongst the players as they gave themselves to a very demanding programme. From early October to mid-November, they face a rigorous schedule which will test their resolve. After the first two trials in early October, a group of players will be selected to go on a two match tour of England in mid-October. The opposition will be Worcester U. 19s and Gloucester Schools, one match on Friday evening and the other on Sunday afternoon. These matches in the past have been a major contributor to the emerging school team. No doubt, it will be the same this year.

The last game the Munster Schools will face prior to facing Leinster in Limerick on Wednesday, 17th November at 2.00 p.m. will be a match against UCC U. 19s on Wednesday, 27th October at 2.30 p.m. in the Mardyke. The second and final match of the interprovincial championship will be on Saturday, 6th November 2004 in Belfast in the early afternoon.
