Where Munster will play Biarritz Olympique in the quarter-final of the Heineken Cup on April 3rd will not be known until late next week. It is understood that following on from a board meeting yesterday, ERC have given Biarritz a deadline of tomorrow week (Friday, 11th February) to name the venue for the quarter-final clash with Munster.
Biarritz are believed to be involved in negotiations with the relevant authorities in San Sebastien about moving the fixture to the Real Sociedad stadium in order to accomodate the thousands of Munster fans who are expected to travel to the game.
The initial difficulty – the soccer game scheduled for that Sunday afternoon – was overcome when both sides agreed to play the day before but there remains other issues that must be faced before a decision can be arrived at.
These include TV broadcasting rights, advertising and the issue of who has jurisdiction over the game, the French Rugby Union or their Spanish counterparts.
