It has been confirmed that Denis Leamy will be out of action for three weeks, after injurying a hamstring on Sunday night in Munster’s Celtic League clash with Glasgow in Thomond Park.

Leamy was forced to retire in the 70th minute and a medical scan showed that he had suffered a strain rather than a tear which means he will miss the Celtic League game against Cardiff and face a race against time to be right for the game against Ulster in Musgrave Park.

Obviously of immediate disapppointment to Leamy is the fact that he misses out on joining up with the national squad as they prepare for the game against England.

He was due to travel to the City West Hotel in Saggart on Sunday night along with the rest of the Munster contingent but instead remained behind to have the injury assessed, with David Wallace called up in his place.

There was some consolation for 23 year old Leamy when he was unanimously voted the winner of the inaugural Tipp FM’s Sports Achievement Award for January 2005.

The Ireland and Munster wing-forward was chosen for his match-winning appearances for Munster in the Heineken Cup, particularly his towering performance on January 15th against Harlequins in Twickenham, which was topped by what proved to be the match-winning try.

A presentation of an inscribed crystal vase was made to Denis by Sports Reporter Pat Murphy in Cork.
