Munster U.21’s are gearing up for the upcoming Interprovincial Series, and will be hoping to take back the title won by Ulster last year.
MUNSTER U.21 s ON A MISSION
For the Munster U.21 squad, the summer was a period of planning and preparation for the upcoming Interprovincial Series. Having taken back to back titles in 2003/3 and 2003/4, they will seek to recapture the title taken by Ulster last year. Twenty four of Munster s most talented young players have travelled to Leicester this weekend to play a warm up match in preparation for the competition, with another warm up game to be played against the Munster Development team on Tuesday 23rd August in Tralee RFC at 7pm.
A panel of over forty players have been taking part in a comprehensive training schedule throughout the summer in advance of the competition, with the final squad due to be announced shortly. The players have been through a vigorous screening process, having taken part in North and South Munster squad sessions. With members of the Munster Rugby Academy also in full training throughout the summer, the squad is confident of producing strong performances in this season s competition.
The Munster U.21 team is coached by Buccaneer s Coach Geoff Moylan. David O Mahony (Dolphin RFC) and Paul Cunningham (Garryowen FC) are Assistant Coaches. The team is managed by Donal Brennan from Shannon RFC, with Ian Costello on board as Technical Advisor.
Munster U.21 s kick off the series with a trip to Ravenhill to play defending champions, Ulster, on Saturday 3rd September at 2.30pm. The following Friday night they play Connacht at the Sportsgrounds in Galway at 7pm. Finally, Munster host Leinster in Thomond Park at 7pm on Friday 16th September. After all pool games are completed, the top two teams will compete for the Series title, with a play off for third and fourth place.
