Old Christians Celebrate 50 Years

Old Christians RFC are celebrating 50 years this season. Having undertaken considerable grounds development over the past number of years the club is continues to thrive

Old Christians RFC was founded in 1955 and this year the club is proud to be celebrating their 50th anniversary. Now based in Rathcooney, Glanmire the club caters for two Junior teams and a full under age section. Our J1 and J2 teams are busy preparing for the new season. Newly appointed Club coach Terry Dillon and Club captain Brian Rall have been instrumental in getting these teams ready for the new season and they are very hopeful that they will reach the play off section of the Munster Junior Leagues to attempt to qualify for the AIL. The club can also boast of a very strong underage section catering for teams from under 8 to under 12 in the mini rugby leagues and under 14 to under 20 in the South Munster Underage leagues.

After the success of their Under 18 squad last season the underage section are really looking forward to trying to add more trophies next season.

Over the past few years the hard working committee have embarked on a number of projects in the development of their grounds in Rathcooney, Glanmire. In this time work has been carried out on the development of two playing pitches and two training pitches under lights. This work is ongoing with further work to be carried out next season in the development of a Flood Lit playing pitch. Also in that period the club embarked on a project to build an indoor Sports Hall which can cater for many different indoor sports and this addition has been an enormous benefit to Clubs in the local and surrounding areas. The hall was officially opened last season and is now being widely used by both members and clubs in the area.

Finally we would like to invite anybody that is interested in taking up Rugby to give us a call at 021 4861341 and we would be delighted to sign them up for the appropriate team.
