Last Saturday Sunday s Well enjoyed their first pre-match luncheon of the season, which was attended by the Lord Mayor Deirdre Clune who was present to honour the visit of City of Derry who are celebrating their 125th anniversary.

A special presentation was made at the lunch to a great stalwart of Sunday s Well; Joe Kelleher who was awarded clubman of the month to celebrate the fact that he is starting his 55th season as a Sunday s Well member. Joe has shown great passion and commitment for the club in all those years.

He was captain of the club, represented Munster and was also a winner of the Munster Senior Cup with the club. His love for the club hasn t diminished as he regularly attends training sessions and rarely misses a game.

Another special guest was the new Honorary Secretary of the Munster Branch Frank Byford. Frank has been another great supporter of the club and is well known in rugby circles throughout the country.

A great day was rounded off for the Cork club, as they secured a fantastic 23-20 victory over a strong Derry side. The team showed great spirit and character to come back from 17-3 down twenty-five minutes into the game.

Tries by Andy O Brien and Horace Kenworthy and a superb kicking display by Jono Lynch secured a narrow victory with every player putting in a huge effort to ensure that the Cork side would hold on for a previous win.
