Opening half tries from Andrew Trimble and Tommy Bowe helped Ulster to a 20-17 win over Munster in front of a full house at Musgrave Park.

Ulster led 20-3 at the break, Munster’s only score, a drop-goal from Ronan O’Gara in the 12th minute coming immediately after David Humphreys had opened the scoring with a penalty.

In the second half Munster dominated territorially but it wasn’t until the 62nd minute that they managed to get across the Ulster line, Jerry Flannery scoring for O’Gara to add the extras.

David Wallace, outstanding all evening and deservedly voted Toyota Man of the Match scored their second try with fourteen minutes of normal time remaining, but despite fierce pressure the Ulster defence held firm. With the last attack of the game, deep in injury time, Anthony Horgan – who was unfortunate not to score in the first half, was stopped inches short of the line
