Munster returned to the head of affairs at the Celtic League table following their gutsy 10-8 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons at a packed Musgrave Park on Saturday evening.

A Munster side showing ten changes from the side that started against Sale Sharks, returned to the head of affairs at the Celtic League table following their gutsy 10-8 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons at a packed Musgrave Park on Saturday evening.

It was a victory that owedmuch to courageous defence particularly in a second half the was dominated territorially by the visitors who trailed 10-5 at half time.

An Anthony Foley try, converted by out-half Mossy Lawlor who also added a long range penalty, proved just about enough for Munster whose man of the match Mick O’Driscoll was bundled into touch at the right hand corner at the Tramore Road end after a marvelous run from half way after Stephen Keogh had sent him clear.

The Dragons scored their try in the 10th minute when Adam Black scored wide on the left and although Craig Warlow missed the conversion, his 64th minute penalty set up a tense final quarter.

Munster were forced to defend a succession of line-outs and scrum inside their own 22 but in the end that defence stood firm and the home side held on for a deserved win

Munster: S Payne; I Dowling, B Murphy, G Connolly, A Horgan; M Lawlor, T O’Leary; F Roche (T Buckley), D Fogarty, F Pucciariello; T Hogan, M O’Driscoll; S Keogh, J O’Connor (A Kavanagh), A Foley capt.
