A Shane Horgan try and two penalties from Ronan O’Gara have Ireland 11-8 in front at Twickenham.
Jamie Noone gave England the lead with a first minute try but Ireland levelled when Shane Horgan was fortuitous in that a ball that bounced on the whitewash was missed by touch judge Rob Dickson – he initially raised his flag – and Horgan hacked on to score.
Two O’Gara penalties had Ireland 11-8 up and England down to 14 with Simon Shaw in the bin before Goode – having missed two in a row – landed a peanlty to leave the home side trailing by 3 points (11-8) at the break
