Canterbury Super 10 s Tournament Report
On Wednesday 22nd of March the inaugural Canterbury Super 10 s Tournament was played at both Thomond and Musgrave Park. Ten U16 school teams took place in a highly entertaining and expansive display of rugby. The Tournament was set up to promote expansive running rugby and encourage the development of skills such as decision making and spacial awareness. Organized by the Development Office and with the full support of the Provincial Management the two venues were host to some end to end rugby. The four teams that competed in Cork scored an incredible 53 tries throughout the afternoon, Jim Williams added this is exactly what we need to develop and emphasize the prominent playing skills at a young age within the province .
PBC won the South Munster Tournament beating Rockwell College 32-12 in the final. While in Limerick the North Munster Champions were Castletroy who ran out winners 7-5 over Ard Scoil Ris in a fast and dramatic final.
Patrick Collins (Munster Development Coach) added This is the first Tournament of this kind within Ireland and the response was fantastic. I am confident it will develop into an annual fixture with more of the schools and clubs within the province and maybe even abroad coming together to compete in an event where it is not so important to win, but to win in style!
The two winning teams will be presented a set of playing Jerseys by tournament sponsors Canterbury at the Celtic league match against Cardiff in May.
