Sunday 30th April 2006
Kick Off 2.30pm
Defending champions Cork Constitution are aiming for their 17th Munster Junior Cup title on Sunday when they play Cobh Pirates at Musgrave Park in the all Cork decider (ko 2.30pm).
Cobh s progress to the final has been unscathed, with a 20-3 win over Dolphin in the opening round, knocking out Midleton by a whopping 42-5 in the second round, defeating Highfield 15-7 in the third round, winning the quarter final with a 19-11 win over Douglas and eliminating last year s beaten finalists UCC 25-13 in the semi final. Constitution had a comprehensive win over Crosshaven in the first round, had a narrow one point second round victory over Youghal, defeated Garryowen 16-10 in the third round, knocked out Clanwilliam 16-3 in the quarter final and sealed their place in the final with a 12-11 win over Skibbereen.
While Constitution were finalists in the very first Munster Junior Cup final in 1909, they didn t win their first title until 1949. Since then, they have had an illustrious history in the competition, winning the title 16 times, and the time Constitution won back to back titles in this competition was in 1994/95.
Cobh Pirates will be aiming to cause an upset and win their very first Munster Junior Cup title. This is only their second appearance in the final, having finished runners up to Clonakilty in 2001 in the West Cork side s last game as a Junior club. Having been defeated in the Munster Junior League final by Youghal earlier this year, Pirates will be hoping to come away with some silverware.
