MUNSTER RUGBY SUPPORTERS CLUB MAKE PRESENTATION TO
IRISH RUGBY UNION PLAYERS ASSOCIATION INJURED PLAYERS FUND
Prior to the Heineken Cup final in May, the Munster Rugby Supporters Club commissioned a special pin badge to commemorate the final against Biarritz Olympique in Cardiff.
The pin badge was exclusive to members of the Supporters Club only.
Nearly 1,800 pin badges were purchased by members which has resulted in a payment of 4,000 to the IRUPA Injured Players Fund.
The Injured Players Fund is a central objective of IRUPA and reflects the players commitment towards supporting those players who have had to depart from rugby or may have to in the near future due to injury or illness.
The fund will provide support to players who have suffered serious career ending injuries or illnesses to readjust to a world beyond the playing of the game.
The fund is dependent on generous individual and corporate support at IRUPA events such as the annual end of season players’ awards dinner. Whilst the rewards of playing top level rugby are extremely attractive, the precariousness of any career in sport is a continuous reminder of just how fortunate most players are.
This week, Tony McGrath, Hon Secretary, (right) made a presentation on behalf of the Munster Rugby Supporters Club to Niall Woods, CEO of IRUPA and a trustee of the Injured Players Fund.
