Munster Rugby welcomes on board Ray Egan, who takes on the role of Sub Professional Fitness Coach.

The Munster Rugby Academy welcomes Ray Egan to his new position as Sub Professional Fitness Coach. His responsibilities will include the physical development of sub-professional and sub-academy rugby players in Munster. Ray’s work will also ensure that Munster sub-professionals have at least two years of supervised training prior to U19 representative selection and participation and he will also act as Fitness Advisor to the Munster U20’s and the Irish U19’s teams.

Ray has previously worked as Fitness Co-ordinator with the IRFU Fit for Fun programme and has had a close working relationship over the last number of years with Munster Rugby. Ray also worked as a Physical Education teacher in Hazelwood College VEC, Dromcollogher, Co. Limerick, Crescent College Comprehensive and was also a Development Officer in Griffith College Dublin.

A native of Kildimo in Co. Limerick, after attending Crescent College Comprehensive, Ray completed a BSc in Physical Education and Sports Science and a post grad in Physical Education from Loughborough University in Leicestershire.

He has had a long involvement in rugby, having coached Loughborough University WRFC, the Junior Cup team in Crescent College Comprehensive (2001) and Cashel RFC (2004-2006). He is currently coaching at Garryowen FC. As a player he played for Young Munster, Terenure, Naas, and Cashel.

Speaking on his new role, Ray is looking forward to the task ahead: “I’m delighted to be working with the best young talent in Munster. I am looking forward to helping these young talented players achieve their potential so that they can compete at the highest level.”

Munster Rugby Academy Manager Hamish Adams said Munster Rugby is fortunate to have a person of Ray s quality and experience joining our team. His expertise in the development of our young talented players will only raise the bar even higher in terms of aspiring Academy and Senior professionals. I welcome Ray to our team and look forward to working with him.
