Old Christians RFC has a long and proud reputation for the introduction and development of young players. The club is the primary club for children, youths and adults in the north Cork City area.

On the 29th November 2006 the club organised a blitz, in conjunction with Youth Development Officer Shane Lehane, for two of the local schools in the area. Upper Glanmire and New Inn Glanmire participated in the blitz. Each school sent up their respective 4th, 5th and 6th classes. The two schools are proud sporting schools and are current participants in the IRFU Youth Development Programme.

The blitz took place on a blustery Wednesday on the main Old Christians pitch. Each team on the day had three games, 3 competitions ran simultaneously with over 150 participants. The skill and talent displayed by both boys and girls was exceptional in the tough conditions. Many of those taking part had not played rugby outside of the YDO scheme but all showed great endeavour and ability. An atmosphere of teamwork and fun existed throughout the day and all involved contributed to the day being a great success.

The smooth running of the event was only possible with the supervision and commitment of the class teachers. Mattie Marnell, Conner O’ Connell and Kevin Geary took charge of the games. Mattie and Conner are stalwarts of the Old Christians club and give up countless hours to help promote and develop the game and introduce new players to the club from the surrounding area. Paul O Connell and Siobhan Marnell aided the smooth running of the event. These men and women encapsulate the spirit of Munster Rugby and contribute to the success of the game in the province.

The Munster Branch provided Certificates and Posters to congratulate the players on a successful day!

Congratulation to all who participated on behalf of the Munster Branch!
