Tigers Thrash Blues To Go Top

Leicester Tigers went to the top of Heineken Cup Pool Four after scoring six tries in their 34-0 hammering of Cardiff Blues at Welford Road.

The English side had the bonus point and victory sewn up as early as the 30th minute against a Blues side who simply did not turn up. Although there was nothing at stake for the Blues, earlier in the week their coach David Young maintained that they had to maintain their momentum and that they “we want to go up there and give it our best shot. Going to Leicester has to excite people whether you are in or out of the competition.”

The excitement he spoke of didn’t extend to his players who found themselves 17 points down after just ten minutes and the game effectively over.

Leicester will now hope that Bourgoin can do a number on Munster but whatever happens in Geneva, the game next weekend in Thomond Park is a winner take all contest.

Elsewhere Ulster’s slim hopes of qualfying for the knock out stages ended when Llanelli Scarlet’s inflicted a 35-11 defeat on them at Ravenhill.
