Munster Heineken Cup Opener In Twickenham ?

Newly appointed London Wasps Chief Executive Tony Copsey has intimated that if his new club draw Munster at home in the opening rounds of the Heineken Cup they will look to play the game in Twickenham.

The Heineken Cup holders today announced the appointment of Copsey who spent the past seven years as Managing Director of Harlequins and prior to that worked as Commercial Marketing Manager for Llanelli Scarlets.

Copsey, who was selected from 100 applicants for the position, represented Wales on 16 occasions.  London Wasps last appearance in Twickenham was back in May when they captured the trophy after a shock victory over Leicester Tigers in front of a world club record crowd of 81,076 and their coach Ian McGeechan said, “Twickenham has always been good for us. We’d have no problem going there if the occasion arises.”

While with Harlequins, Copsey was responsible for the threefold increase in turn-over and it was he who took the Munster/Harlequins game to Twickenham in 2005, a meeting that attracted a then record Pool crowd of 33,833 to see Munster emerge 18-10 winners.

It is expected that ERC Ltd will anounce the day/times of the first four rounds sometime towards the end of next week.
