Emerald & Irish join forces for new Rugby Magazine

Frank Quinn of Ireland Rugby Review and Manus Lappin of Emerald Rugby are to combine their respective talents to bring Irish rugby followers a publication that will give comprehensive coverage of every aspect of the game in this country.

From October 2007, in line with the new domestic season, Emerald Rugby magazine and the Irish Rugby Review will be joining forces to bring what they promise will be the most exciting, informative and entertaining Irish rugby magazine ever produced.

In addition to full coverage and reviews of the Rugby World Cup, Six Nations, Heineken Cup and Magners League, under the banner of Emerald Rugby, they intend to increase the coverage of the domestic game with a focus on:

– AIB League and AIB Cup,
– Provincial Senior Cups
– Junior and Qualifying rugby,
– Womens Rugby,
– Rugby League
– Schools rugby.
– Underage and mini-rugby

Frank Quinn brought Irish Rugby Review into existence back in 1983 and it has been a continuuous feature in the Irish rugby market ever since. It’s Editor for most of that time was the hugely respected and fondly remembered Karl Johnston who was involved until his untimely death just three years ago. Quinn’s publication has survived the challenge of other rugby publications such as, most recently, Rugby Ireland International, a hugely expensive, glossy production that carried the moniker of official magazine of the IRFU.

Unlike Rugby Ireland Int., and others that appeared – irregularly –  and then disappeared, Emerald Rugby, launched at the start of the 2003 Rugby World Cup, has remained a constant under the stewardship of Lappin and his wife Emma.

The first issue sold out in record breaking time and since then has gone on to establish itself as the leading rugby magazine in Ireland covering the professional and grassroots game.

The combined efforts of the two teams should ensure a lively, informative magazine and the initiative is a welcome one.
