Good To Be Back

Good To Be Back

The last time Donncha O’Callaghan pulled on a Munster shirt was when Glasgow Warriors visited Musgrave Park back in May and that day he came on as a replacement in a game that Munster won 38-20.

A lot of sweat has flown under the bridge since then and has borne with it its share of disappointment for him, his colleagues and supporters alike at international level, a fact he readily admits.

” I know there was huge expectation out there for the Six Nations first up and then the World Cup. We had huge expectations of ourselves. As far as the Six Nations was concerned getting beaten by France was a real sickener, especially the way it came about but I think we gave a good account of ourselves after that.

“Then going to France for the World Cup, well we expected more of ourselves. I know people out there are disappointed but it’s nothing to how we as players felt, it really isn’t”

However, O’Callaghan dismisses attempts to rake over those particular coals, contending, “the time to deal with our performance back then is when we go back into (international) camp. What I need to concentrate on now is what’s ahead starting with this Magners League game in Glasgow tomorrow.”

“When I got home from France I took a bit of time out, went away for a while but now I’m glad to be back and looking forward to it all. There’s no point in feeling sorry for yourself in this set up and to be honest its a good way to have it.”

” Glasgow have started to put together a good run and they look to be a stronger squad than before so I wouldn’t be under any illusions about how we’ll need to perform if we’re to get anything out this one. It’s been a while since we won there. The last time, when Rog kicked the late drop-goal, I wasn’t playing – must have been injured! ”

“But we started out the year identifying our aims in this competition and we need to get back on track in that respect.”
