Introducing Darragh Hurley

From Kinsale in Co County Cork, the just turned 22 year old was educated in Christian Brothers Cork and UCC and played at both Schools and Under 21 level for Ireland.

He made a big impression on his Munster senior debut against Cardiff Blues in the Arms Park (Sept 2006) and ended up that season with 12 caps including two Heineken Cup appearances. This term he travelled with the squad to Chicago and earned  further caps in the Magners League games against the Welsh sides, Llanelli Scarlets, Newport Gwent Dragons, Cardiff Blues and Ospreys.

 

Favourite Food: Thai food.

Book you are currently reading or have just finished: The Partner by John Grisham.

Favourite TV programme: Its between Deadliest Catch and How Its Made.

Favourite Film:  All the Back To The Future films.

Most enjoyable holiday location:  Cuba.

Favourite sport other than rugby:  American Football.

The sport you least like: Bowls

Person you would most like to meet:  Maradonna.

Sportsperson you admire most:  Roy Keane.

Hobbies:  Guitar, Darts, Bee keeping and sitting outside Donncha O’Callaghan’s house stealing broadband.

Where and when did you first play rugby: Kinsale Under age when Iwas 6 or 7.

Biggest influence on career:  My parents and television.

Best career advice you were given: I can honestly say I have never been given any worthwhile advice (still waiting on some).

What you like Most/Least about being a rugby player:  The buzz you get when you run out in front of a large crowd/ I hate training.

Other sports that you played:  I played both hurling and football ( wasn’t very good) and I did Athletics for years…Hence my speed.

Best rugby memory:  Winning the Munster Senior Cup in 2003.

Rugby player you admire most:  Jonah Lomu.

Rugby team you admire most:  At the moment it would have to be Georgia>

Sporting event you would most like to attend:  The Super Bowl.

If you weren’t a Pro rugby player what would you be:  A struggling student with ambitions to conquer the world.

Plans for life after rugby and what provision have you made:   I’m planning to have my business degree finished by the end of the year but when I’m finished rugby I’m hoping to travel the world for a few years and just see where life takes me !

Advice you would give to aspiring pro rugby player:  “Dont take my advice”. 

Three people you would invite to dinner and why:  Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler….to get their opinion on Bertie Ahern as the leader of our great nation .
