Munster Face Dragons Fire

Munster completed their preparations ahead of Saturday’s Magners League tie with Newport-Gwent Dragons at Musgrave Park (7.30) with a full squad training session in Garryowen FC this morning.

All those who suffered knocks and bruises were in attendance and took part in training with the obvious exception of Jake Paringatai who injured a cheekbone and will be out of action for 4-6 weeks while David Wallace was also at his home club although he didn’t take part in training because of the dead leg he suffered in last Sunday’s game in Thomond Park.

Paul O’Connell was also on hand to watch his colleagues training, the squad captain continuing his rehab and on schedule for a return to training in the two to three weeks.

Back training with the squad this morning were John Kelly and Anthony Horgan who have both been named in the extended squad as has Denis Hurley who could be handed the number 15 jersey for Saturday’s game. Hurley made his comeback to Munster colours, the last time they were involved in Magners fare, against Edinburgh when he produced an impressive performance before giving way to Shaun Payne for the Heineken Cup game.

Munster coach Declan Kidney left Garryowen immediately after training to get down to UL where the A interprovincial between Munster and Leinster kicks off at 2.30pm. With Paringatai out of action, of particular interest to Kidney will be the performance of A captain James Coughlan while the return to representative action of Barry Murphy, Mossy Lawlor, Denis Fogarty and Jeremy Manning makes this a particularly interesting contest.

Kidney will name his starting line-up tomorrow at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, Michael Owen and Ceri Sweeney will be available for the trip to Cork, both having been released by the Welsh squad management ahead of their game with South Africa. However, Colin Charvis, Rhys Thomas and Luke Charteris will be missing from the Dragons side.

Good news for Dragons coach Paul Turner is that full back Martyn Thomas, scrum half Andy Williams and flanker Richard Parks have recovered from minor injuries and will travel to Cork.

Dragons Squad: K Morgan, M Thomas, R Davies, P Emerick, A Smith, P Dollman, L Mustoe, A Thomas, W Evans, R Lewis, H Gustafson, A Black, S Jones, B Daly, K Crawford, J Corsi, A Hall, A Jones, P Sidoli, M Owen (captain), J Ringer, N Fitisemanu, R Parks, J Bearman.
