2008 Meteor Munster Sevens Tournament Officially Kicks Off!

Munster Rugby officially launch the Meteor Munster Seven’s Cup, the second annual club sevens rugby tournament in the province. This year’s event will take place on Saturday 30th August at Garryowen F.C.

With sixteen of the top senior club teams once again taking part, joined for the first time by eight junior squads and six ladies club teams, this year’s tournament guarantees more action, more competition and much more entertainment for all the family!

The teams competing in the Meteor Munster Sevens tournament will be involved in over 60 games, kicking off at midday and finishing with the grand final at approximately 6.30pm. The event will feature all the top Munster Clubs including reigning All Ireland League Champions Cork Constitution, Shannon and Garryowen to name a few.

As well as catching all the exceptional action on the pitch, supporters can enjoy a free, fun filled day of activity at Garryowen R.F.C with a barbeque, live entertainment, bouncing castles and face painting, making it a day the whole family can enjoy.

Ultan O’Callaghan, Munster Rugby’s Provincial Domestic Game Manager said ?It is fantastic to see both Munster Rugby and Meteor coming together to support the domestic club game. Sevens rugby is an ideal platform for both adult retention and player development and we look forward to showcasing the skill and ability that these players have to offer at this year’s Meteor Munster Sevens Tournament?.

Commenting at the launch, Amanda Carroll, Meteor’s Head of Communications said ?Once again we are proud to sponsor such a high calibre sporting event that recognises the wealth of talent that Munster has to offer.   Meteor has long been recognised as the competitive force in the mobile market, and we look forward to welcoming an equally competitive force to the pitch on 30th August? she added.

The event is also supporting the ‘Headsup’ text referral service from Rehab Care, which aims to help young adults in difficulty by offering support group information for a range of issues via text on 50424.
