Munster Rugby Academy in Spala

This week sees the Munster Rugby Academy step it up in the Polish High Performance Centre in Spala.
This is the first time the Academy have made such a trip, and all is possible due to the funding provided by the Munster Rugby Supporters Club.
Academy training would usually include a two week intensive summer camp in Cork and Limerick, which has now been compacted into this one week programme in Poland.
The squad will use the extensive facilities available at Spala, which includes a cryotherapy centre, to kick-start their season conditioning programme.
The Academy Players are joined by Academy Manager Ian Sherwin, Elite Development Officers Ray Egan and Ken O’Connell, and Sub-Academy Fitness Coach Paudie Roche.
Fourteen players were selected for the trip to the Polish training camp, and they comprise of existing academy players, new academy recruits and sub-academy players.
The week long training programme involves nineteen training sessions, which take place in the gym and on the field, and twelve visits to the Cryotherapy Chambers.
Academy Manager Ian Sherwin said “the trip is a fantastic opportunity for all involved to use world class training facililties in a professional environment. This is a totally new experience for the players and is an important part of our preperations for the season ahead.”
On their return home the Academy players will resume their normal training programme for the year.
