Munster Focus On E-Communication For Leinster Match
2nd April 2009 By Munster Rugby
A number of new marketing developments will be on view at Thomond Park this weekend at Munster’s key Magners league match against Leinster in Thomond Park stadium. Munster in conjunction with Setanta Screens are installing LED Pitchside advertising and trialing a ‘Live’ mobile application.
Glyn Billinghurst, Munster’s Sales & Marketing Manager identified ‘We are pleased to be trialling both the pitchside advertising and the “Live Mobile” application at this crucial Mangers League match. We see both initiatives as key communication mechanics both for our sponsors to promote their brands and for our Supporters to keep up-to date with news, and information from the Munster Rugby website directly on their mobile phones. We believe that both these initiatives have the potential to provide Munster Rugby with two additional commercial platforms to develop in the Seasons ahead adding value to our key stakeholders – our Sponsors and Supporters”
Ireland’s first pitch-side LED advertising hoardings are being installed at Thomond Park Stadium – with over 70 metres of pitchside advertising on the East Stand touchline, in the main TV arc. This clearly provides Munster and its sponsors with a prime location to communicate brand messages in a modern an innovative style.
Ronan O’Kelly of Setanta Screens says ‘The pitchside LED is a great development at Thomond Park, it is a proven technology in stadia worldwide and as Ireland’s largest LED specialist we are delighted to be the first to market here in Ireland”
The Pitchside advertising is complimented by the 44 Square Metre mobile LED Screen behind the North Terrace which provides the 25,600 supporters at the match with live images of the match and messages from sponsors before the game and at half time.
In addition to the screens Munster is working with iMobile, a subsidiary of Setanta Screens to trial a unique mobile application specifically for Munster Rugby fans. The application can be downloaded for free via Bluetooth at Thomond Park around the main bars on the day of the game or received by text simply by sending the keyword ‘Munster’ to 51000 (Standard SMS rates apply). iMobile will have promotional staff onsite on match day to assist users to download and use the application.
Ronan O’Kelly, from Setanta Screens added ‘You couldn’t find a better place than Thomond Park Stadium this Saturday to provide an iMobile application. In essence, our application enables Munster to give their members and fans a small gift in return for their support. The fans can now have a real connection with Munster 24/7 and ensuring that the unique bond between the club and supporters is taken to the next level. We’re very proud to be enabling that.”
