Five Points For Munster
17th October 2009 By Munster Rugby
Munster came back from a ten point deficit to lead 12-10 at halftime against Treviso, and added five unanswered tries in the second half to win comprehensively in Thomond Park this afternoon, 41-10.
The Italians took the lead with tries from Brendan Williams and Andrew Vilk, both not converted.
Munster were unable to turn possession into points after great breaks from Doug Howlett and David Wallace and it was 29 minutes before Paul Warwick darted over the line for Munster’s first score of the afternoon, converted by Ronan O’Gara.
Worryingly from a Munster point of view Doug Howlett pulled up with a hamstring injury while chasing back to secure a Treviso kick just before the half.
His replacement Ian Dowling quickly made his mark showing some unique ball skills as he grounded a cross field kick from Paul Warwick and putting Munster ahead 12-10 going in at break.
On the resumption Munster opened with an early try from Denis Leamy bringing the score to 17-10.
Tries followed from Denis Fogarty, David Wallace, Ian Dowling and the final score came from Jean de Villiers, his first in the Munster jersey.
