Change of Plan for Munster Fan

Change of Plan for Munster Fan

Munster Rugby have changed the plans for one lucky Munster supporter this weekend!

Paul Dunne from Thurles, Co. Tipperary intended to hit his local pub to watch Munster’s Heineken Cup semi final against Biarritz, but now he and his wife will be in Estadio Anoeta, joining the Red Army and supporting Munster Rugby from the stands.

Paul was one of over seven hundred entrants in our free online comeptition whereby Munster Rugby offered supporters the chance to win a trip for two to Biarritz this weekend.  All Munster Rugby asked for was the entrants contact details and a short summary of what their plans for the Heineken Cup weekend were.

The Tipperary man was randomly selected as the lucky winner and when he got the call initially he thought it was a wind-up!  We’re sure it will sink in come Friday morning when he and his wife jet off from Shannon airport with Munster Sports Travel for the weekend.

Paul’s original plan was “to be in the Monks pub, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Best pint in Thurles, big screen, long weekend, packed with Munster fans, couldn’t get any better!…..unless I was in san sebastian!”, and now he will be in San Sebastian thanks to Munster Rugby!  This will be the first Heineken Cup trip for Paul and we have no doubt it will be a memorable experience for him.

Thanks to all those that entered and for showing us your commitment to supporting Munster Rugby. Unfortunately we couldn’t include all of your plans so we have randomly selected a few and included them below:

Make a day of it in Killaloe. Late breakfast/lunch in Woods. Get in early to Reddans to get a good seat!

I’ll be watching it with my father in-law in Crosshaven rugby club.  But would much prefer to be there on the day.

At the moment I’ll be watching the game on my own in London as I am studying for exams. I’ll have the jersey on and the flag wrapped around missing being either in San Sebastian or back home in the pub with all my friends.

Standing in front of the lobster in O’Sullivans pub in Crookhaven, West Cork. If you cant be at the match itself, theres no better place.

Our plan is to go to TPs Bar in BallyDavid, County Kerry with my wife and 2 sons, all of whom are Munster supporters, and roar (as gaeilge) our heads off! An Mumhan abu!

I will be sitting pretty in Phairs Pub, Shannonvale, enjoying complimentary Heineken Cup sandwiches, chips and sausages while shouting words of encouragement at the tv with 20 or 30 other Munster heads. The red army marches on in San Sebastian.

Home Alone shouting at my own TV. Hoping my wife will stay out a a little bit longer at her shopping and then I will not be given out to about bad language, blood pressure and “you know that they cannot hear anyway”. But its all part of watching Munster play or going to see them play.

Well I live in the UK at the moment so will be sat in an English country pub with a mass of Wasps supporters wearing my Munster jersey and supporting the team loud and proud! I will also have my English boyfriend with me who I have bought a Munster jersey for and have taught him all the words to Stand Up and Fight and the Fields of Athenry!

Depending on whether people have returned from a years exile in Austrailia (also big Munster fans suffering Heineken Cup withdrawal symptoms and depending on mother nature), we were thinking of a BBQ (lots of cooked animal and even more cold beers) with the telly brought to the sliding door. All weather dependant of course, but it sounds like a plan to me.

On Sunday, 2nd of May, I will go into Limerick city with Munster-mad friends and extended family to see this crucial match on the big screen. But I hope I win this and can go to France, as it is my dream to support my Munster team, who I’ve supported for many years!! I have never missed a single match -and hope I wont miss this one!

I intend to be planted at the bar in a Naas pub wearing an old school Munster jersey, new Munster beanie and a serious smile before spending three hours that evening ringing all my mates in Cork to discuss the match.

Am going to go for a very long walk. I hate having to watch rugby (especially Munster) on television – you see too much. If a player passes the ball to the right, I’m screaming into the television “there’s two outside you to the left and nobody covering them”. If a player from the opposition hits, thumps or walks on a Munster player I’m roaring at the referee even though he is half way up the pitch when it happens but because I can see it on television I think he should as well. This continues for the entire game that I’m watching so that is why I will go for a long walk because otherwise I maybe inclined to put my foot through the television.

The 2nd of May is a special day to us as it is our wedding anniversary, when we got married we picked a date that was going to be in between Munster matches, mind you my wife doesn’t know that, thank god it wasn’t this year. So for our wedding anniversary we plan to watch the match in our local pub Clohessy’s Ballycummin with our usual crew and depending on the result maybe a romantic dinner for two in Fusion, Chinese restaurant, on the Monday. Lol

I have plans to watch the game at home with my family, we are all keen rugby union followers, my husband and sons have all played at different levels. We will have plenty of good food and of course the Guinness will be flowing freely.. I will sit in the best seat in the house and shout at the tv for the full 80 minutes, criticize the pundits at half time and celebrate when they win… looking forward to Munster getting to the Heineken Cup Final again. Being a Munster fan and living in England, tickets are very hard to come by, so to get the chance to travel and watch them live in San Sebastian would be a treat especially as its my birthday on April 29th.

I’ll be watching with my Leinster born 81 year old friend Sean Colgan, who watches every Munster game I cant attend with me on his plasma screen T.V. in 2 big armchairs, mine is christened The Joan O’Leary Stand! The house will fill cause everybody knows the craic starts as soon as Munster fill the screen!

We will be having a BBQ before the game with a large group of family and friends, with the odd bottle of beer as well, all must wear Munster jersey or something red. The house will be decked out in flags. The game will be shown on two large screen TV’s in separate rooms, once again with the odd beer thrown in. When we win we will have a celebration with music in the gazebo where the Fields of Athenry will be first on the play list. During this time we will plan the travel arrangements to Paris for the final.

As my hubby will still be lambing, I will be watching the game at home all on my own, with my dog Glen – I will be shouting at the telly and he will be woofing ‘Come on Munster’ !!!!!

Watch the game under the shadow of Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland with a pot of Barry’s Tea.

Going to the match of course – recession – what recession? Ryanair – Pay for a pee? Well just hold on – If our team can hold on for 80 minutes then so can I – Dublin to Birmingham then to Biarritz, it may be Sat 10pm but I’m looking forward to the tapas already.  Sun seas sangria and simply red – yea everywhere – ‘com on Munster – what more can you want!!!!!

Unfortunately I’ll be watching this one from the high stool, would have loved to be there but with a wedding to pay for next year alas we have to give this one a miss. After my very understanding fiance let me go to Perpignan without her I would have loved to bring her to Biarittz to return the favour so hopefully you’ll enable us to change our plans and support the boys at the match.

I will be having a Munster family party at my home to watch the game.

My boss is a die-hard Ulster fan and he got a bit upset when they got knocked out. So, to make me suffer, I can see him putting me on to work that afternoon, unless of course I am not in the country.

G’day, would love to go be there to shout for the lads, and will save us from a weekend of babysitting da inlaws kids, they have tickets and have been rightly bragging already. Plenty other babysitters on tap so not being mean. Save us, and let us blow some steam!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are dressing up in our jerseys with our faces painted and red crazy wigs then heading down to the local pub to cheer on the lads Munster with all the crazy fans.

I will, as always before a Munster match, wear my Munster shirt to sleep in the night before the match and wear it all day of the match (having had a shower, of course!) Then it’s curtains closed, phones off, wine in the fridge and watch it on my own as I want to hear all the commentary and I don’t want to upset anyone with my bad language! I generally keep the windows closed in case the neighbours think someone is being murdered in the house as I can be quite vocal and loud when happy or upset.

My husband, 6 boys and I are planning to don our Munster jerseys, hang our Munster flags outside the house and turn our livingroom into a mini stadium!

Munster Rugby thanks you for your continued support.
