Pass Master Joins Elite Club

This evening in Ravenhill, Peter Stringer will become just the third Munster player to win 200 competitive caps, when he takes the field in the Magners League clash with Ulster.

The northern province have played a central role in the milestones of a career that began when he made his senior bow against Ulster on the 3rd of October 1998 in Musgrave Park and it was against the Ulstermen that he won his 100th cap, again in Musgrave Park, again the 3rd but this time December 2005.

And for the record, the milestone score stands at 1-1, Muster won on Stringers debut 31-9 but lost on his centenary, 20-17. A week later he made his first of 82 Heineken Cup appearances in the game against Perpignan in Stade Aime Giral, his out-half that day, Barry Everitt, in a side captained by Mick Galwey.

A week later, he scored his first Heineken Cup try when Munster drew 18-18 with Neath at The Gnoll and of his total 12 for Munster undoubtedly none had the impact of the one he scored in the Heineken Cup final victory of 2006 at the Millennium Stadium.

A consummate professional, his contribution to what has made Munster Rugby the force it is today is incalculable. One of the lynchpins of the current squad, still as passionate and determined 12 years on, with an attitude that if it could be bottled would be worth a fortune to anyone setting out on a professional career path, in sport or any field.
